Celebrate World Refugee Day With The United Nations Refugee Agency
Today, we’re excited to showcase the incredible work of the United Nations Refugee Agency on World Refugee Day. This day, which falls every year on June 20th, celebrates the strength and courage of people who have been forced to flee their home country to escape conflict or persecution.
The UN Refugee Agency has created an amazing collection of GIFs, Stickers and Clips for World Refugee Day which you can find on their official GIPHY channel. The UNHCR advocates and raises awareness on the most pressing issues facing refugees. This year, their focus will be on the right to seek safety.
UNHCR’s content illustrates that every person on this planet has a right to seek safety — whoever they are, wherever they come from and whenever they are forced to flee.
As part of their initiative this year, UNHCR commissioned beautiful works from the illustrator Iryna Morykvas, a refugee who was forced to flee Ukraine with her 10 year old son. Iryna’s story and compelling illustrations show the importance of standing with refugees around the world.
In an interview with UNHCR, Iryna Morykvas spoke about her experience fleeing the Ukraine and the kindness she is experiencing while staying with a host family in the Netherlands. Iryna was fortunate to have a host family that encouraged her to continue pursuing art.
Iryna also discussed the inspiration behind the stickers created, saying “when we help someone we open our heart to somebody.”
