Tell us a little about your Creators Club project.
My Collection of Clips for Creators Club (tongue twister!) is focused on exaggerated moments of friendship/love and awkward life fumbles. I wanted to create shareable moments for friends that stem from a condensed version of my own style of sketch-based humor. Whether it’s sharing your last bite with a loved one, pretending to love something that’s actually frustrating to you, or body rolling your way through a confusing crush, I hope my collection of Clips can bring some simple laughter and inspire others to make their own videos too.
What are three words you would use to describe your creative style?
Silly, Absurd, Friendly.
What do you do when you’re in a creative rut?
I like to switch my focus from a pressure to create to a comfort in consumption. Watching/reading works from other comedians and artists that inspire me helps alleviate creative barriers in my mind. When I can truly laugh and feel my emotions I can more easily remember what exactly it is about storytelling and creating that brings me joy and fulfillment. When I take care of myself, support others and stay active creatively, I can see more possibilities and ideas around me that I might have been doubting.
What are a few examples of your work you are most proud of or have been your favorite to create?
Making silly sketches online with my friends has always been a dream, so to see so many other people enjoy them too is something that still shocks me and fills me with so much joy. The work I’m probably most proud of is me and my buddies’ short films and web series’ on our YouTube page “Yesterday Shorts”. I love telling heartfelt stories through absurd characters/worlds and I hope to keep making longer content in addition to my shorter sketches. I also drew one cartoon/comic a day for 500 days and got to illustrate some books so I’m hoping to expand into some more illustration/animation as well. Above all, this Giphy collection was an absolute blast to bring to life and I can’t wait for more.
What was your favorite part your Creators Club project? Favorite Clip?
My favorite part of this experience was getting to work with my buddy Fia, a fellow Creator in the Club. Our brains bounce off each other so well and getting to drive around together and bring these little jokes to life is a memory I’ll always cherish. My favorite clip, however, is probably “Do I Want You or Do I Want To Be You”. I struggle with this question quite often so finding a way to make it a silly song instead of a confusing feeling of dread feels very epic. Getting to work with so many friends on this one brought me so much joy. Also, any chance I can do a body roll I’ll take it.
