There have been many articles and documentaries about the Tulsa Massacre in remembrance of its centennial, but few come from the perspective of the descendants of those affected.
Through GIPHY’s ERG, GIPHY ID, we had the opportunity to hear from Nailah Jefferson, the Director of Descended From the Promised Land (a film about the Tulsa Massacre and its featured subjects). The documentary features family members of those who survived to provide a different perspective of what happened and how it has affected them.
Nailah, based in New Orleans, is also known for her 2014 documentary Vanishing Pearls, about the aftermath of the 2010 BP Oil Spill. Nailah’s current work includes the documentary Commuted, about a 51 year old woman whose triple life sentence was commuted by the Obama Administration in 2016.
