Today, we are excited to share GIPHY Studios’ participation in UNICEF’s Youth Mediathon. UNICEF’s Youth Mediathon is an online skills-building program that gives young people around the world the opportunity to improve their abilities as content creators and collaborate with other youth to develop multimedia projects about the issues affecting young people today.
GIPHY Studios’ employees Alix McAlpine, Jess Judkins, and Stephanie Weber got involved by sharing their skill sets with a group of 20 creators from Ecuador, India, Indonesia, Italy, Kenya, Myanmar, Nepal, Philippines, Poland, Romania, and the USA. These participants were invited to attend a series of online sessions, learn new skills from the GIPHY Studios team as well as guest speakers (including guest artist, Tolmeia Gregory), and brainstorm with other youth to design a series of Stickers and GIFs about children’s rights.
Participants used their talent and creativity to raise their voices on the issues that matter to their generation — from climate to mental health, education, ending racism and discrimination — calling for adults to create a better future as we recover from the pandemic.
Through their GIPHY content, they discussed creative solutions to the world’s big problems.
Their content was published on UNICEF’s page on GIPHY to mark World Children’s Day 2021 — UNICEF’s global day of action for children, by children, marking the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) on November 20. On this day, UNICEF advocates for, raises awareness of, and amplifies young voices on the most pressing issues facing children. The content created from this program will be promoted through global UNICEF social media channels and Voices of Youth, UNICEF’s platform for youth, in the coming weeks. It will also be discoverable everywhere GIPHY powers Stickers and GIFs!
Partnering with GIPHY, UNICEF has created a lot of great, timely content over the years. When UNICEF approached GIPHY with this idea, it was a no-brainer as we at GIPHY love to share our knowledge on all things animated.
