Today, GIPHY is announcing the official launch of GIPHY Video, which expands our many product offerings aimed at making everyday conversations more entertaining.
With GIPHY Video, we are bringing real-time, culturally relevant short-form content — with sound — to our platform! These are meant to be the daily conversation starters people can bring into their messaging experience. Each video is intended to be short and shareable, allowing users to quickly send to friends, post on social, etc.
To start, the GIPHY Video library (featured predominantly on the GIPHY homepage, as well as its own hub) will feature select launch partners, representing some of the more popular content verticals on the platform. They include:
- Geffen Records (Music): Geffen teamed up with GIPHY to create the first short-form music video by working with GIPHY Studios to capture exclusive content from the latest music video, “Tongue Tied”, from Marshmello featuring YUNGBLUD and blackbear.
- Universal Pictures (Entertainment/Movies): Universal has worked with GIPHY on promoting many major films, and for GIPHY Video, this includes sharing clips from current and upcoming movies such as CATS, Dolittle, Queen and Slim, Invisible Man, and Black Christmas.
- BBC America’s Wonderstruck (TV): BBC America’s Wonderstruck is a new micro-network devoted to wildlife and wonder that takes over BBC America every Saturday for 24 hours. To help audiences experience this incredible collection of iconic nature content, BBC America is sharing captivating clips of the animal world from programs such as Planet Earth II, Madagascar, and Dynasties on GIPHY Video.
- Chicago Bulls (Sports): With the NBA Season underway, the Chicago Bulls created unique content featuring both Benny the Bull and Chicago Bulls players to get their fans excited and engaged for the 2019–2020 Season.
By carefully curating the content at launch, we are providing videos that are uniquely relevant to this moment in time and will give users something to talk about, react to, share, and more.
As you might remember… In 2018, GIPHY debuted short videos that featured the finalists of our GIPHY Film Fest, which celebrated artists making compelling short-form narratives in 18 seconds or less. This new product evolution of GIPHY Video extends beyond showcasing the content of GIPHY’s Film Fest and aims to bring real-time culture into the full arc of conversation: share a GIPHY video, react with a GIF, punctuate the conversation with Stickers, etc.
GIPHY Video will be available across our web and mobile platforms, and the videos are easily shareable as either links or directly into messaging apps. At launch, only select partners will be able to upload content to GIPHY Video, but we plan to expand to more!
