Millions of viewers from Mexico to Maine stepped outside on Monday to witness a rare, once-in-a-generation celestial event: a total solar eclipse.

Monday’s solar eclipse was one for the history books: according to the Washington Post, the phenomenon won’t be seen on the continent until 2044, when it will dim parts of Montana and the Dakotas. The next coast-to-coast solar eclipse is expected to arrive on August 12, 2045, with the path of totality running from California to Florida.

Did you miss Monday’s eclipse? Don’t worry, here are nine GIFs of the celestial event, all of which we captured live on the official NASA GIPHY channel.
